ChatGPT vs Claude

Most comparisons of these two are a scoreboard, which is the least useful shape for a decision that changes every few months. The durable difference is not which model is smarter this quarter. ChatGPT is built wide, with more surfaces, more connected apps and more ways to make something happen. Claude is built deep, and it is the one to reach for when the thing you are holding is long, complicated, and has to stay coherent.

Disclosure: this site is run by Zentor, which competes with both. Product details come from OpenAI and Anthropic documentation.

The difference that survives the next release

Benchmarks move. Two things move slowly, and both are about shape rather than intelligence.

ChatGPT covers more ground. There are more places it shows up, more services it connects to, more ways a task can be scheduled or handed off. If your question is "can it reach the thing I need", the answer is yes more often.

Claude holds more at once without losing the thread. Long documents, an argument with many parts, a piece of work where the answer changes as you understand the problem better. It is noticeably less likely to quietly drop something you told it forty minutes ago.

Pick on that, not on last month's leaderboard.

Where ChatGPT is the better answer

Reach, and the number of ways in. OpenAI's connected apps can search, reference and in supported cases act inside services you already use, with what is available depending on your account. If your work is many small different things that touch many different systems, breadth wins, and Claude will feel narrow.

It is also usually the easier one to put in front of somebody who has never used either.

Where Claude is the better answer

Anything long. A contract you need to actually understand, a research pile you need synthesised without losing the caveats, a document you will be editing for a week. Anthropic's connector documentation covers what connected services can read and do, and that side has grown, but the reason to pick Claude is still what happens inside one long conversation.

If your work is writing that a person will read closely, this is the one.

Side by side

ChatGPT Claude
Best at Breadth: many tasks, many connected services Depth: long documents, sustained reasoning
Feels strongest when The job touches several different systems The job is one complicated thing
Reach into your tools Wider, varies by account Growing, varies by plan
Failure mode Confident and shallow on a hard problem Fewer places to reach when you need an action
Pick it if You need coverage You need coherence

Neither list is stable, so check both against your own plan before committing anything. The shapes are stable; the feature rows are not.

Test it on two real jobs, not on trivia

Take one job of each kind from your actual week. Something exploratory where the goal moves while you work, and something long where losing a detail would matter. Run both in both. Then do the interesting part: come back three days later and continue each one without re-explaining the background.

The second sitting is where the difference shows. The first one always looks close.

When the answer is neither

There is a third case these comparisons miss, and it is common: the model is not your problem. Both of them will write the client update, draft the listing, produce the proposal. Then you copy it into Notion, resize the images, paste it into the platform backend, and update your own tracker. You did that last week too, and you will do it next week, and no amount of model quality changes it.

If your week is mostly the same handful of jobs and the slow part is moving the results around, you are not choosing between two chat products. Zentor is built for that case: it works inside Notion, Airtable, Slack and your inbox, keeps what it learns about how you want the work done, and hands back the finished thing where the work continues. For thinking and for long documents, keep whichever of these two you preferred.

Questions

Which is better overall?

Wrong question, and any page that answers it confidently is guessing at a number that changes quarterly. ChatGPT for breadth, Claude for depth.

Can I use both?

Plenty of people do, and it is a reasonable split rather than an indulgence: one for the exploring, one for the long documents.

Does either put finished work back into my tools?

Both can reach connected services, with limits that depend on your account. Neither is built around a repeating job that has to end in a specific place with a specific format.

Which is cheaper?

Both are per-seat subscriptions, so the comparison is between plan tiers rather than usage. Check current plan pages directly; this one would go stale.
